About PNG to JPG
PNG files are lossless, which makes them large. A screenshot or exported graphic saved as PNG is frequently several megabytes when the same picture as a JPEG would be a few hundred kilobytes with no visible difference. Converting to JPEG is the standard fix when a file is too big to email, attach or upload.
The one thing to decide before converting is what happens to transparency. JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels must be replaced with something solid. This tool lets you choose that colour — white by default, since it matches most documents and web pages, but black or a custom colour is often better if the image will sit on a dark background.
Quality is adjustable, and the resulting file size is shown for each image before you download, so you can find the balance you want rather than accepting a fixed default.
How to convert PNG to JPG
Add your PNG files
Drag and drop up to 30 PNG images, or tap Select Images.
Set the quality
Drag the quality slider. Around 85% keeps photographs looking clean while cutting the file size substantially.
Choose a background colour
Pick the colour that will replace transparent areas. This only affects images that actually have transparency.
Convert and download
Press Convert, review the size saving, and download individually or as a batch.
When to convert and when not to
- Convert photographs saved as PNG — the saving is enormous and the visual difference is negligible.
- Convert when a file must fit under an upload limit and transparency is not needed.
- Do not convert logos and icons that need transparent backgrounds — you will get a solid rectangle instead.
- Do not convert images with sharp text or thin lines if quality matters; JPEG produces visible halos around high-contrast edges. Use WebP instead, which handles both cases well.
